This race through the heart of in Panoramaland (as the area is known) involves running in dry streambeds, on defined yet remote sections of the Paiute ATV trail, navigating seasonally wet streams (ultra runners only), and of course occasionally clambering over sandstone boulders or overhangs in your path. Plus there is one cliff where you climb a 20-foot ladder.

For 2018, the marathon and half marathon will avoiding any wet rocky streambeds, assuming there is no rain. The ultramarathon, though, will cover almost exactly 10km in the Willow Creek Canyon, which may have a tiny amount of water flowing higher up, but small enough to avoid getting your feet wet. The reward is being surrounded by surreal colorful cliffs. Runners of all distances should not expect expect smooth paved road terrain, or even a defined trail in several of the the canyons, but expect natural wild beauty throughout the day.
