Course Description

Entering its 9th year, the Dogwood Ultra Marathons returns with lots of options. To celebrate the 10th anniversary of our business, we have decided to offer a 48 hour race instead of a 36 hour distance. The 48 hour begins at 8:30am on Friday morning. Runners can also choose 10-mile, 12-hour solo, 12-hour relay, 24-hour solo, and 24-hour relay options. This race will be chip timed. Runners choosing the 10-mile or 12-hour options have the choice to run the course day or night. That means you can sign up for the 12-hour and begin at either 7:30 am or 7:30 pm. Relay options can have up to 4 or 6 (36-hour only) members. Teams can be same gender or mixed gender. The race will be held at Twin Lakes State Park in Green Bay Virginia.

Runners will pass by the start every 3.35 miles. There will be a full menu of food and aid available during the day. In addition to normal ultra food, there will be lunch and dinner items served. This includes hot dogs and our world-famous Quesadillas! Vegetarian options will be available. The course features rolling hills and approximately 246 feet of elevation gain each loop. There are two stream crossings that may dampen your shoes depending on the water levels. There are numerous views of the water throughout the course. The start line has a pavilion for runner’s gear and a playground for the families.

There are no cutoffs for this race in terms of distance. However, every runner must complete a full loop before the finish for it to count. There is no grace period or partial laps.

New this year is the Parent Loop option! This loop is made to encourage children/parents to complete one loop with their runner. They simply sign up for this option at registration. The $25 fee covers a shirt and handmade finishers award. The family member may then complete their one loop with their runner at any time and will be hand timed.

The 10 Mile is part of the Virginia State Parks Adventure Series.

Packet Pick up with take place at 7:30am on Friday for 48 hour runners. It will then be offered from 5-6:30pm on Friday night at again at shelter 1. The final opportunity for pick up (excluding Saturday night runners) will be at shelter 1 on Saturday morning beginning at 6am.

Aid Stations

There is only 1 aid station at the start/finish. It will have hot food throughout the event on a rotating basis. It will also have all of your typical Ultra foods like chips, fruit, PB&J, pretzels and candy. The aid station will also stock water, Tailwind and pop.
