Frozen Heart Trail Race

Now Virtual!  Beginning JUNE 27, 2020

Now as a virtual format, this year only!!!!

This event will now follow a virtual format, for the 2020 offering only. Participants may complete one of the three distances offered (ie--50k, 34k, or 17k) at the location of their choosing between 12:01am June 27, 2020 and July 24, 2020. The distance must be completed in one continuous activity, however, the time limit for completion (usually imposed for the physical event) no longer applies! So, if you normally were concerned you couldn't finish the 50k distance in the allotted 8 hour time frame--give it a try! You can walk it in 12 hours, or crawl it in 20 hours, just so long as it is one continuous activity (continuous means you didn't pause your tracking application...you made continuous, relentless forward progress for the duration of the activity). All finishers will receive at least a medal and cinch bag (provided by our sponsor DICK's Sporting Goods) following submission of results and confirmed 50k finishers (ie--from proof uploaded to the self-reporting page) will also receive a special 50k finisher item.

Every year, our race donates 100% of the proceeds to local charities that are focused on the improving the well-being of our community. This year we will continue our commitment to improving the lives of those in need in our community. All proceeds from this virtual edition of the Frozen Heart race will benefit The Mission--a homeless shelter located in Great Mills, Maryland that operates solely on funds donated by the surrounding community. Currently, The Mission is experiencing a funding shortfall that may led to the loss of the lease on the building they currently occupy. Be assured that with your registration, you will be helping make a difference to enrich the lives of those who are without permanent addresses in Southern Maryland.

50K - 34K - 17K

Saturday - May 16, 2020

Join us on May 16, 2020 for your favorite winter running event--in the spring!!

2020 is our 7th annual Frozen Heart event - and we are back as your favorite low-key winter spring race for trail loving runners.   This year, due to circumstances beyond our control, the event will be at a temporary location (Calvert Cliffs State Park) on a temporary spring time date--expect to find us back at St. Mary's River Park in February 2021!!!

Runners of all abilities are encouraged to challenge themselves to complete one of the three race events.  The looped course provides for 3 event distances - 50K, 34K, & 17K.

Unfortunately, the Chesapeake Challenge will be taking a year off--due to both the Frozen Heart 50k and the Lower Potomac (Half) Marathon being in flux in 2020, your friendly race director has decided not to challenge you this year--We think you have enough changes coming to challenge you!

So, run our warmed over Frozen Heart event this year--and return next year for a return to St. Mary's River Park and a bigger, badder Chesapeake Challenge than ever!

Run with Purpose!

100% of Frozen Heart's proceeds benefit those in need in Southern Maryland.  Benficiaries in 2019 included: The Mission, St. Mary's Caring Soup Kitchen, and the Foundation for Heroes.  Additionally, as the RRCA Maryland State Ultra Championship Race, Frozen Heart made a contribution to the Kids Run The Nation Fund.

Past beneficaries include:

  • Southern MD Veterans Initiative which focuses on solving problems facing veterans and their families by providing necessary services and follow-on support through local community agencies so that no one has to be homeless.
  • WARM (Wrapping Arms 'Round Many) which works in partnership with the Three Oaks Center to provide safe and welcoming shelter during the coldest months of the year to adults impacted by homelessness.  WARM offers a place to sleep, two hot meals, and a sense of community to program guests.
  • St Marys Caring Soup Kitchen
  • Semper Fi Fund

Chesapeake Bay Running Club

The Frozen Heart is organized by the Chesapeake Bay Running Club (CBRC) an all volunteer non-profit 501(c)(3) organization whose mission is to promote physical fitness in Southern Maryland.   CBRC sponsors championship road and trail races, fun runs/walks, and other social events.  We welcome and encourage the experienced as well as the inexperienced runner/walker and recognize our people with various awards for activities throughout the year.
