Peru’s Cordillera Huayhuash has been called "the best alpine trek in the world".  Fabled for being the source of the mighty Amazon and having peaks that soar snow-fluted above 6,600m, the Huayhuash is a compact range of 20 main mountains knotted together by blue glacier ice: a place of visual magnificence.

This is a race around these mountains.

Before the first running of the race in 2015, I made two trips around these mountains. The idea for this event is to set up some support for a light and fast circumnavigation of the range, to run though the valleys and over the passes with a light pack without stopping, with checkpoints along the way to resupply or take a rest if needed. There are two checkpoints along the way to provide this support. The second goal for this event is to make it a cheap, low-key adventure race. Route options are limited, but racers may chose their own path. The checkpoints are placed in locations that ensure participants make a complete circumnavigation of the range but allow them to choose between a longer lower route on trails, or a shorter higher route on more technical terrain. The race will take place starting June 27, 2018, regardless of the number of participants. (I may be the only one.)
