The Lake Wanoka Backyard Ultra will test your endurance and benefit a good cause! The premise is simple. Can you run 4.166666 miles in ONE hour? And do it again and again and again....until you are the LAST RUNNER STANDING! ** For additional details please see the race rules/format section.

The Lake Wanoka Backyard Ultra is an affiliated Backyard Ultra event. Backyard Ultra is a form of ultramarathon race where competitors must consecutively run the distance of 4.167 miles in less than one hour. When each lap is completed, the remaining time within the hour is typically used to recover for the next hour’s lap. The concept was created by Lazarus Lake (creator of the Barkley Marathons) and produces only one winner. All other runners receive a DNF.

We are a bronze ticket event meaning that the winner of the Lake Wanoka Backyard Ultra will earn the right to enter the Ohio's Backyard Ultra in Lucasville (held in march). The Ohio's Backyard Ultra is a silver ticket event, meaning the winner earns a place on the USA team for the 2022 world team championships.
