JULY 13 2024 - South Llano River State Park

A Half Marathon, 27 Miler, and 40-mile NIGHT trail race located in the rocky hills of south Texas.

WHEN/WHERE

The Start and Finish are located at the Interpretive Trail Head. We recommend arriving an hour prior to your race starting. 

South Llano River State Park
(1927 Park Rd 73, Junction, TX 76849)

40M Runners - Start time 7:00 PM at Start/Finish area.
Half Marathon & 27M Runners - Start time 7:30 PM at Start/Finish area.

Race Cutoff - 7:30 AM (12 hours total to complete race)

Packet Pickup

We will have packet pickup open from 6:00 - 7:30 PM on Saturday, July 13th (the day of the race.) Packet Pickup will be located near the starting area at the main tent. ​

When arriving in the park make sure to pay $5 for the day pass whether that's prior to the event online here or in cash at the drop boxes on the day of the event. (South Llano River State Park requires this)

THE 40 MILE CHALLENGE

The 40-mile distance has proven to be a tough race. In 2022, we had 32 runners start this race and ONLY 13 finish. Several runners that started this 40-mile foot race dropped down to lower distances. The 40 Miler has a 60% DNF (did not finish) rate as of 2022.

Anyone who completes the 40-mile distance will receive a special heavy-duty bronze Noche Trail Runs 40 Miler finisher medal. These unique bronze medals will be different from the other finisher medals. 

RACE

40 Mile Challenge - Three Loops
40 mile runners will run a total of 41.4 miles over the course of three 13ish mile loops. The elevation gain is near 3000ft of climbing and descending. Aid stations will be available every 4-6.5 miles along the course.

27 Miler Runners - Two Loops
27 miler runners will run a total of 27.6 miles. The elevation gain is over 2000ft of climbing with over 2000ft in descending. Aid stations will be available every 4-6.5 miles along the course. 

Half Marathon Runners - One Loop
Half Marathon runners will run a total of 13.7 miles. The elevation gain is over 1000ft of climbing with over 1000ft in descending. Aid stations will be available every 4-6.5 miles along the course.

"THE HILL" ->

This course will be tougher than you expect. The course is very rocky, vast, and hilly.

 

Historically, the weather is 90 degrees at the start and 70 degrees at night. Regardless of the weather conditions, we will continue to race unless life-threatening weather interferes.
 

Trail Markers
We will use bright orange ties and signs to mark the course. Signs with arrows will be used to show which trail to run on and ties will be used to let you know you're on the right path. All course markings have reflective material for night time visibility.

AID STATIONS

MAIN AID STATION (MILE 0 & 13.8):  

The aid station will be manned by a few volunteers and will have water, Tailwind, Pickle Juice, sodas, bananas, oranges, watermelon, unlimited PB&Js, and other various salty, sweet, and savory snacks. 

WALTER'S WATER STATION (MILE 6.8): 

This aid station will be unmanned and will only have Water, Ice & Salt Tabs. No parking - no road access.

B'S HYDRATION STATION (MILE 11.4): 

This aid station may be unmanned and will have Water, Tailwind & Ice. Parking is allowed - has road access.

This race is a part of the Texas Summer Night Series. Anyone who completes all 3 races in the series will receive a Texas Summer Night Series Water Proof Sports Duffle Bag & a case that holds all the race medals in the series.
