Pisgah Forest, NC

This will be the inaugural "unofficial" running of the beautiful and challenging Pisgah Fish Hatchery 50K. The course starts and finishes in the hatchery parking lot, will pass by at least a dozen waterfalls in the first 16 miles, then summit 4 mountains including Pilot Mountain at 5,072' with a panoramic view of the surrounding Pisgah Forest. In total, it is just under 33 miles with over 16,000' of climbing and descent. We start with a 1/4 mile of pavement followed by 4 miles uphill on forest road to spread out the field. After that, the remaining 28+ miles is pretty much all single track with short stretches of double-track and forest road mixed in.

The 2018 "test race" will be much like a fat-ass, where a $0 entry fee will get you a well-marked course with 6 water-only aid stations (manned with experienced volunteers), drop bags delivered (and returned from) aid stations at miles 12 & 20 on the course, a (home-made) lasagna meal with sodas & beer awaiting you at the finish, and possibly some other goodies.
