100 Mile Course Overview

Cutoff: 34 Hours

Elevation Min / Max: 5,937′ / 11,473′

Trail Systems: Midland Trail, Bear Creek Regional Park, North Cheyenne Cañon Park, Santa Fe Trail, Templeton Gap Trail, Palmer Park, Austin Bluffs Open Space, Ute Valley Regional Park, Glen Eyrie, Garden of the Gods

Course Description: This course has a little bit of everything! The first half is mainly through Pike National Forest. Runners will start at the historic Rock Ledge Ranch at Garden of the Gods and head down Midland Trail before weaving their way through Bear Creek Regional Park up through North Cheyenne Cañon. Runners top out on Mount Rosa at 11,488 feet. From there, runners descend down through Cheyenne Cañon before facing another grueling climb up Columbine Trail to reconnect with High Drive. After heading back down out of Bear Creek Regional Park, runners embark on the city portion of the course, heading north on the Santa Fe Trail before heading east on Templeton Gap Trail where they will meet Palmer Park.

Palmer Park is a maze of rocky, technical trails to wind through, eventually delivering you toward Austin Bluffs Open Space and Pulpit Rock. Here runners navigate an ascent of Pulpit Rock before heading back down and further west to Ute Valley Regional Park. Ute Valley trails are also quite rocky but more runnable than Palmer. Runners with juice left in their legs will find this part goes quickly with no major climbs. Once runners are through Ute, they will be thankful for a bit of pavement that connects them to the Palmer-Mesa Trail and Foothills Trail. The views here are fantastic as runners approach Garden of the Gods. Turn into Glen Eyrie and head above the beautiful red rocks of the garden as they climb to meet the gravel of Rampart Range Road, before a final descent down Rampart Range Road into the garden and their finish at Rock Ledge Ranch.

Please be aware, the second half of this course is largely focused on city parks and trails. There will be portions of the race run on pavement including paths, sidewalks, and roads in order to connect to various parks in town. Runners are responsible for their own safety and yielding to traffic at all times. Runners will be required to wear proper lighting during the night portion of the race. While the majority of the course is dirt, there is a higher pavement percentage than many mountain ultras. The fun mix of terrain is unique and offers an all-encompassing tour of what trails in the Springs have to offer.
