to be held on the third Saturday of September

The Great Lake Walk and Ultramarathon is a 56 km walk or run around beautiful Cowichan Lake on Vancouver Island, British Columbia. This walking/running event takes place on the third Saturday in September each year. The next walk is September 21st, 2013

Mike Watson who started the walk with 55 students from Pearson College left everyone in his wake as he crossed the finish line in 4:52:26

This was posted on FaceBook by Cathy Ferguson-King, after learning that her son was the youngest walker in this year's race.

Koltin received his prize of a "Fungus Sculpture" and got to see his name on the Perpetual Plaque.

"Pretty cool... it was his 14th birthday....and he wanted to raise $1400 for Muscular Dystrophy on his 14th birthday...by walking the GLW....well he raised over $3600 and finished! SO proud of him.. he left me in the dust but was there at the finish.. What an awesome birthday!"

This years Perpetual Trophy winner is the Lions Club of Lake Cowichan. They have graciously volunteered since the beginning and we are very grateful for their help.
One of their duties is to supply the "Tracker Car" which follows the last walker to make sure they arrive at their destination.

SEE THE ROUTE
Walk or run from the community of Youbou on the north shore to Caycuse, Honeymoon Bay, Mesachie Lake on the south shore, finishing in the Town of Lake Cowichan. You will be greeted with warm welcomes along the way from the volunteers at the twelve rest stops. They supply food, drinks, porta-potties and more. More information.

FAMILY EVENT
Make the most of your visit to our friendly towns. Lots of fun activities are planned for you and your family including a pasta dinner and breakfast hosted by local organizations, bowling, skating, entertainment and more. The Walker Letter contains all the details.

WALK/RUN FOR CHARITY
Great Lake Walk participants are encouraged to walk or run to raise funds for their charity of choice, although this is not mandatory. More than 300 charities and causes have benefited over the years.

Hundreds of volunteers dressed in bright yellow t-shirts host the walkers/runners in the 56 km Great Lake Walk and Ultramarathon each year. Their generous support has helped make this event a great success. New volunteers are always appreciated. Join the team.
